Bengaluru: Heavy rains flooded several localities in Bengaluru on Wednesday, leading authorities to deploy two tractors to help residents in the affected areas. The weather service forecast continued rain throughout the day and into Thursday.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has arranged for tractors to be installed at Kendriya Vihar apartments to help transport residents of Yelahanka locality. A helpline was set up on Tuesday evening to provide essential supplies including drinking water, milk, bread and biscuits.

Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath visited flooded areas and apartment complexes in the morning to supervise relief efforts. At Kendriya Vihar Apartments, where around one meter of water had accumulated, he asked the authorities to take prompt steps to remedy the situation. “Two tractors have been set up to help residents enter and exit the apartment complex,” BBMP said.

More than 20 officers and staff were deployed to assist with the response. Girinath also visited the Ramanashree site in California, ordering officials to start pumping water.

In his comments to the media, Girinath reported that Bengaluru received 30 mm of rain from Monday to Tuesday, with another 60-70 mm recorded between 8 am and 6 pm on Tuesday. “The northern part of Bangalore received heavy rains. All the lakes are full and the problem is because the water was overflowing. Every year this poses a problem. We are taking steps to drain the water from low-lying areas flooded area of ​​Yelahanka,” he said.

Due to persistent rains, the Chief Commissioner held a virtual meeting this morning, urging all officials to assess the situation in their respective areas and work towards finding lasting solutions.
